The latest Radio Ecoshock show, PEAK CLIMATE, is good:

We start out with Dr. Peter Ward author of the revolutionary climate book "Under A Green Sky." Peter has just returned from an exploratory trip in Australia, and will head to Antarctica later this year.

Dr. Ward has summarized the newest science which shows that 4 out of the past 5 great extinctions were not caused by asteroid hits - but by wrenching and deadly climate change. The cause? Carbon dioxide belching out of volcanoes. But now we are the volcanoes - and the end result may be the same: out of control climate turbulence followed by the deafening silence of mass extinctions.

He is also very concerned about sea level rise, MP3 here:

Also this recent talk by Robert Jensen is worth a listen:

Global Warming, Peak Oil, and Mass Extinction are interwoven crises.

I was glad that Richard Heinberg included a chapter on how GW and PO activists can learn from and work with each other in his latest book, "Peak Everything." It seems like so many activists have one pet issue and fail to explore the major context of and interdependence between various challenges facing our species and world. Why do some people take on global warming as their cause, yet rarely even mention mass extinction or resource depletion? Is it meant not to overwhelm people; to simplify things, not to scare people off, to seduce people with an easy catch phrase, the latest fashionable issue? Or is it also that many of these activist can't face the totality of the crisis themselves?

I'm not a fan of this kind of thinking/activism. The way the influential media spins it, if we can just "solve global warming," we'll be fine. We need to acknowledge that the most influential "values" guiding our civilization are completely wrong, that our planning for the future is delusional, insane, and effectively suicidal.

In some ways, the only real issue facing us is DENIAL.

http://www.oilempire.us/triple-crisis.html Triple Crisis: Peak Oil, Climate Change, Overshoot

Peak Oil and Climate Change resemble the parable of the blind men touching an elephant. Each observer is correctly describing what a part of the elephant is, but none have a holistic understanding. Peak Oil and Climate Change are two facets of the problem of overshoot, and neither can be mitigated in isolation from the other.
