If anyone has the chance, I highly recommend the book Never Tire of Protesting by George Seldes. It is an incredible analysis of the American right from the mid-40s to the mid-60 from an anti-fascist perspective. There is so much dirt on the Birch Society and the roots of the current patriot movement that we are dealing with in this book I highly recommend it to those interested in this topic.
What AJ and his followers do not realize is that the roots of what they preach was heavily funded by a far right portion of Corporate America. It was basically designed to popularize the idea that communism or socialism was responsible for the ills of the society and to divert people from the ills of capitalism and fascism. Now, the word fascism is used often by the patriot movement, but it is misused only to describe people that the patriot movement does not like, like Obama or Clinton.
Seldes is someone we all should read more of.
