Posner Plagiarizes Again (9 posts)

Disgraced Miami Beach author Gerald Posner is desperate. He apparently whitewashed an account of his serial plagiarism on his Wikipedia page, then threatened Miami New Times with a lawsuit for writing about it. And now he's retained an 83-year-old lawyer infamous for publicizing the "grassy knoll" theory of John F. Kennedy's assassination, a conspiracy Posner refuted in his most famous book.

    ???

The following is a good overview of Posner's history of disingenuousness in the JFK case:

Mark Lane is the JFK equivalent to David Ray Griffin in my book. Both have legitimacy in their respected political research communities, both have established themselves as the major pro-conspiracy figure (at least at a certain point in time) with JFK and 9/11 and both have exhibited very suspicious behavior. Lane comes from an Army Intelligence background and according to Mae Brussell, was actively trying to hold back deeper political research and keep the researchers on the grassy knoll. Both Lane and Griffin framed the approaches of the pro-conspiracy communities probably more than any other figure. To make a long story short the following NY Times article on Lane is an excellent example of one of his suspicious activities:

    name

Now tell me why Lane would want to sneak one of the key witnesses in the MLK case down to Jonestown at the time of the HSCA? He also was praising Jonestown days before the massacre.

Not just Miami Babylon and the Daily Beast, but his 9-11 book and his Saudi Arabia book as well.

I guess this must be easier to get away with than one might think, if it's taken this long to discover. It sounds like laziness--exactly what you'd expect from someone writing tedious disinformation. It seems like publishers should be running all their new works through this Viper software...

Gelembiuk, who uses plagiarism software in classes he teaches, wasn't satisfied with the apology. So he ran Miami Babylon through Viper, free online software that scours the Internet to look for copied phrases. It turned up 16 new instances of stolen prose. New Times and author Frank Owen — whose book, Clubland, Posner had heavily plagiarized — found more problems.

    Maybe Posner is finally discredited.

Shouldn't there be something on his wikipedia page about how many people find it suspicious that he is always writing in defense of the government and official story on MLK, JFK, and 9/11?? At least something like, "Some conspiracy theorists accuse him of being an arm of governmental disinformation."

christs4sale/anyone- got links for info on Mark Lane? I posted the Posner story at 911blogger, and everyone that posted so far seems to think he's the real thing, though one person asked the obvious question; why's he defending Posner? http://911blogger.com/news/2010-05-23/posner-plagi...

Well some of the best places to get information on Mark Lane are Mae Brussell's broadcasts around the time of Jonestown and John Judge's excellent "The Black Hole of Guyana: The Untold Story of the Jonestown Massacre". I think that the article in my previous post is a lot by itself. In Lane's own book about the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago, Lane says in the bio that he was Army Intelligence during the 1950s.

This video of John Judge is an excellent overview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSZYmWUITNY

John got the name wrong of the reporter for the Press Democrat. It is Kathy Hunter, not Hughes, but otherwise it is great.

And Grace Walden did survive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwoY5gNWLmU

You can listen to Lane's excuse here: http://www.blackopradio.com/black475a.ram

Gerald Posner's, council for Ahmed Wali Karzai, response to NY Times Editorial:

    To the Editor:

I represent Ahmed Wali Karzai, the chief of the Kandahar Provincial Council and President Hamid Karzai’s younger brother. In your Aug. 13 editorial, “The State of the War,” you cite unidentified “American officials” to assert that “the younger Mr. Karzai is involved in the opium trade and other corrupt enterprises” as well as being “on the C.I.A.’s payroll.”

The editorial notes that Washington says it has “nothing that will stand up in court.” In conversations with United States and Afghan officials, I have been told that President Karzai has challenged two United States ambassadors to bring any evidence about possible opium involvement by his brother Ahmed Wali personally to him, and that neither did so.

And a special panel convened by the Afghan attorney general concluded in June that charges that Ahmed Wali Karzai had illegally seized land were utterly baseless.

Also, while he is a key partner with the Americans and coalition forces — having survived multiple assassination attempts himself — he adamantly denies being on the C.I.A. payroll.

Most troublesome is your suggestion that President Karzai should ask Ahmed Wali “to take a year or two abroad.” Mr. Karzai is a democratically elected representative.

How can we expect to ask countries to become democracies and then ask for the removal of elected officials?
