APNewsBreak: More warning signs on day of shooting

    ....

Loughner's favorites included little-known conspiracy theory documentaries such as "Zeitgeist" and "Loose Change" as well as bigger studio productions with cult followings and themes of brainwashing, science fiction and altered states of consciousness, including "Donnie Darko" and "A Scanner Darkly."

I've been waiting for a confirmation that he listened to Alex Jones. It looks like Infowars is trying to disown him though...

Indeed, it has now emerged that Loughner’s profile matches almost precisely with Harris & Klebold. He was a long-haired pot-smoker who classmates described as “left-wing,” and was into worshipping skulls, dressing up like the grim reaper and burning American flags.

Loughner fits into the classic satanic/vampire cult wannabe mould, which makes the establishment’s effort to conflate him with conservatives and tea partiers all the more deceptive.

Unprincipled Liberals Exploit an Insane Loughner to Condemn Political Opposition
    http://www.infowars.com/unprincipled-liberals-expl...

Confronted with the fact Jared Lee Loughner was not a Tea Party supporter – or for that matter your garden variety leftwinger or Obama devotee – the liberals have shifted tactics.

Loughner is nothing more than a catalyst for liberals so they might equate opposition to the state to murderous extremism.

“Based on what we know so far, the Tucson killings look like more like politically tinged schizophrenia,” writes Jacob Weisberg for Slate. Loughner, according to Weisberg, is a product of Arizona’s “anti-government, pro-gun, xenophobic populism.” In short, the predominant political atmosphere of the Grand Canyon State made Loughner do it. Personal responsibility is not part of the equation.

“Extremist shouters didn’t program Loughner, in some mechanistic way, to shoot Gabrielle Giffords. But the Tea Party movement did make it appreciably more likely that a disturbed person like Loughner would react, would be able to react, and would not be prevented from reacting, in the crazy way he did,” Weisberg continues.

Loughner is merely a rhetorical device for Weisberg and the state-loving intelligentsia. Mr. Weisberg follows SPLC talking points to the letter and dredges up the extensively documented false flag event conducted by the government in Oklahoma City more than a decade and a half ago in order to demonize political activism against the government in the here and now:

Liberal Media was Already Prepared for Violence in Tucson
    http://www.infowars.com/liberal-media-was-already-...

Editor’s Note from Alex Jones: What we have here is a clear case of a self-fulfilling prophecy. The national and local media knew exactly what they were doing. They hyped to a pool of 300 million Americans over and over again that a deranged tea partier is going to gun politicians down. Then, a highly suggestible paranoid schizophrenic acts on the hype and the media instantly blames the tea party. If they continue to hype this, it will cause more deranged copycats to act.

Glenn Beck had "9/11 truther" in an on-screen list characterizing the shooter.

No surprise. We see this after every shooting.

They were tying this to the fringe right within the first couple hours, in large part because of the shooter's presence online. I heard David Icke mentioned by someone from the Southern Poverty Law Center.

    More to come.

    We really should respond effectively.

Alex Jones had a small part in "A Scanner Darkly" and I'm sure this discussion list knows about Jones promoting Loose (with truth) Change. Both of which are listed as favorite films of the shooter, probably truthfully.

As for the moon landing, interesting that Fox TV ran a show pushing the no moon landing hoax in February 2001. It's a great straw man to ridicule everything else with. badastronomy.com had a good debunk of that show but never wondered why a right wing media institution would run that -- probably for the same reason they ran The Lone Gunmen show in March 2001 about a war game exercise being used to crash a jet into the WTC via remote control in order to boost military spending. I'm glad that could never happen in reality ...

Welcome to the consequences of decades of education cuts, stupid tv shows, stupid Hollywood films, economic contraction, hopelessness, violent pseudo-entertainment desensitizing the public, and a lack of anything approaching critical thinking as a dominant part of our culture. Unfortunately, I doubt this will be the last episode like this, especially given how the crime has merely fueled more polarization.

a partial antidote to this madness:
