Indymedia and 9/11 Truth (6 posts)

I was on Truth Revolution radio at the start of the month for a show on Indymedia and 9/11 truth and although it makes me cringe listening to it and I think it could I could have been better, here it is if people want to listen (the Indymedia discussion starts 25 mins in when Chris B joins the show and I come on 60 mins in, it's 95 mins long):

    http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/03/393371.html

It's also been posted a 3 other Indymedia sites:

    http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2008/03/10/184848...
    http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2008/03/373247.sh...
    http://nyc.indymedia.org/en/2008/03/95448.html

On Indybay and the UK site it has been promoted, though this has been controversial for UK IMC, see this thread:

And it was initially auto-hidden on NYC, see these emails about this:

I find this all very interesting. Truthmod here had a run in with NYC Indymedia many months back. Here are a couple of posts that briefly convey that story and some related concerns.

    http://www.truthmove.org/forum/topic/575/page/2?re...

TruthMove has been ignored by some Indymedia outlets and recommended by others. We understand regional variance in topics addressed, but don't understand why one chapter would totally censor something promoted by another. Shouldn't this lead to some kind of internal debate?

I see that you were trying to encourage just such a debate. The following quote sounds a lot like the response we got from the NYC Indymedia folks.

I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs convincing about the cult like nature of the conspiraloon movement. The host of the show sounds far more deranged than the average US evangelist christian radio pundit.

Pretty sad how readily these people reveal their lack of tact and intellectual maturity in dismissing the serious concerns of others with such a snide attitude. Truthmod and I have both met Cosmos in person, and he is a really sincere and committed person. We were on his show a while back promoting the general strike, and we know what you mean about it being awkward doing a phone based show.

I read a lot of educational condescension in all this. Like, 'we have a degree in political science and you don't.' They always seem so willing to ignore the fact that some of the people in the 9/11 truth movement are more educated than they are. And some of them seem to have a lack of savvy being too easily sucked in by the convenient responses offered by our debunkers.

Anyway, I'll check that radio show. Thanks for representing the cause in Indymedia circles. It seems that some of them will only listen to people already on the inside.

2005 nyc editorial remarks: "I don't care to single any particular wingnut outfit out for ridicule, but moderating this site has made me something of an expert on various 911 groups and raps. They are virtually all hysterical."

Now, there is every option out there, but they may not be perfect. They may not be have a perfect respect. Well, just like the GOV.

Really, how do we get past this. Nobody believes we can be human without fucking up our dearest friends, while making us like them. Is this the best Cold War fever we can imagine?

For the sake of our own institution, we really have not thought out of the box, since we still want the relevance of what the box may bring. This is where I take a draw. Get it?

There is so much out there to draw upon...

I was talking to an older friend recently who knows that I'm into 9/11 truth. Before I ever even really brought it up, he said, "You know, Noam Chomsky doesn't think that 9/11 was an inside job." I'm afraid there is a lot of this kind of thinking/rationalization going on, even among fairly intelligent people.

Thanks Vic for that article, it seems that nothing has changed since then, the article was removed from the front page and no justification given despite one email in support from a NYC activist:

    http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/imc-nyc-web/2...

The argument is on-going in IMC UK and probably isn't going to be resolved anytime soon...

Regarding the "You know, Noam Chomsky doesn't think that 9/11 was an inside job" argument, I'm not sure this is the case, last night one UK IMC'er was saying that they don't want 9/11 material on the site for "tactical" reasons -- I expect Chomsky and the like won't touch the subject for the same reason...
