Thickest, oldest Arctic ice is melting

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080318/sc_nm/ice_arct...

The thickest, oldest and toughest sea ice around the North Pole is melting, a bad sign for the future of the Arctic ice cap, NASA satellite data showed on Tuesday.

    Crap.

With our natural hole in the ozone layer over the pole, made larger by our abuse, and less arctic ice present to reflect back the sun's radiation, we might assume that global warming could accelerate as a result.

So, whatever the cause of global warming, are we worried yet? Most of our friendly neighborhood "man-made global warming skeptics" agree that the globe is warming. I wonder if any of them would like to start talking about solutions.

I wonder where Obama and Clinton stand on regulating CO2 emissions, or the Kyoto protocol. I'll see what I can dig up, unless someone else already knows.

Global Warming Rushes Timing of Spring

    http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hIYL9LEejz-ZGih...

The capital's famous cherry trees are primed to burst out in a perfect pink peak about the end of this month. Thirty years ago, the trees usually waited to bloom till around April 5.

In central California, the first of the field skipper sachem, a drab little butterfly, was fluttering about on March 12. Just 25 years ago, that creature predictably emerged there anywhere from mid-April to mid-May.

And sneezes are coming earlier in Philadelphia. On March 9, when allergist Dr. Donald Dvorin set up his monitor, maple pollen was already heavy in the air. Less than two decades ago, that pollen couldn't be measured until late April.

Pollen is bursting. Critters are stirring. Buds are swelling. Biologists are worrying.

"The alarm clock that all the plants and animals are listening to is running too fast," Stanford University biologist Terry Root said.

Someone on the last Radio Ecoshock show, [ mp3: http://www.ecoshock.net/eshock08/ES_080314_Show.mp... ] said that it takes 1,000 years to warm the oceans -- so they are acting as a massive heat sink and mitigating the effects of global warming.

All this stuff is covered in the Climate Code Red report I posted about, http://www.truthmove.org/forum/topic/937 listen to the first part of the the radio show on it and have a go at reading the PDF (I managed to get about 2/3 of the way through it) -- it's the best summary of where things appear to be at I've recently come across, and yes, we are seriously up shit creak :-|

Obama and McCain's views on climate change are looked at in the last Ecoshock show linked above.

The articles below are disgustingly offensive, wrong headed, and manipulative. This isn't the truth talking; it's fear, delusion, denial, ignorance, selfishness...

    Paul Joseph Watson, PrisonPlanet.com

    http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/february2007/...

The Creeping Fascism of Global Warming Hysteria
Man-made orthodoxy is a dogma of coercion, bias, and junk science

Man-made global warming feeds into humanity's arrogant self-importance in thinking that it has become the master and therefore the decider of the earth's destiny. On an individual level, it also helps a person stroke their ego and feel good about themselves for recycling a few beer cans or wine bottles in the belief that they're saving the planet, and also gives them the excuse to exercise their judgment against anyone who doesn't do likewise.

New Proposals To Fight Global Warming Would End Civilization, Kill Billions
Washington Post pushes Carnegie document that encourages near-zero carbon output within decades

    http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/march2008/031...

The establishment press is affording sober gravitas to a Carnegie Institution report that calls for carbon emissions to be reduced to near zero in order to combat global warming, without mentioning the fact that such a move would return man to the stone age if not end civilization as we know it and kill billions.

"The task of cutting greenhouse gas emissions enough to avert a dangerous rise in global temperatures may be far more difficult than previous research suggested, say scientists who have just published studies indicating that it would require the world to cease carbon emissions altogether within a matter of decades," reports the Washington Post.

"Their findings, published in separate journals over the past few weeks, suggest that both industrialized and developing nations must wean themselves off fossil fuels by as early as mid-century in order to prevent warming that could change precipitation patterns and dry up sources of water worldwide."

What would the effects of almost completely outlawing carbon dioxide emissions be?

The complete reversal of hundreds of years of technological progress and man's return to the stone age.

Correction - stone age man at least was able to make use of fire - that too would presumably be banned under the measures being proposed.

Global transport of any kind would cease, manufacturing and production would be a thing of the past, the global economy would crumble, communications would go dark as computer networks and the Internet are abolished. Millions would freeze to death as a result of not being able to heat their homes.

We'd be back to living in caves and hunting for food with spears.

Does this sound extreme? The Washington Post calmly reports on the proposals without even mentioning the complete devastation they would inflict upon humanity.

    ...

In fact the earth has been warming consistently since the end of the 17th century, after the planet emerged from the Little Ice Age, and long before industrialization began.

From 1940-1975, when carbon emissions as a result of human activity rapidly increased, global temperatures decreased significantly, prompting fears of a new ice age, before the warming trend picked up again.

Of course none of this matters to the Church of Environmentalism and their ever-willing media echo-chamber, whose duty it is to regurgitate the most doom-laden dose of demonstrably false fearmongering in order to con us out of tax dollars while all the real environmental problems are ignored.

As much as I can't stand Alex Jones I do find him easy to ignore, what I find more disturbing is Global Research running articles like this which essentially have the same message:

The Transition to a Totalitarian World Government
    "Mankind at the Turning Point"
    by Brent Jessop
    http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&...

I have no respect or time for Alex Jones but I do for Michel Chossudovsky and it is true that some very rich people are funding some climate change material, for example I came across this report on Ireland yesterday: http://irishclimate.org/ and it looks like it might be good, but reading this on page two of the PDF, http://irishclimate.org/changing_shades_of_green.p... is rather off putting:

THE IRISH AMERICAN CLIMATE PROJECT is a project of the Rockefeller Family Fund. Funding support for the project comes from the Bipartisan Policy Center, the Henry P. Kendall Foundation and the Rockefeller Family Fund.

Of course the current governments are not going to get to a zero carbon situation any time soon and clearly they don't want to -- the people seriously pushing a zero carbon approach are still on the fringes of the mainstream, for example in the UK the Centre for Alternative Technology produced a Zero Carbon Britian report: http://www.zerocarbonbritain.com/ and although the 3rd biggest political party here, the Lib Dems have adopted a zero carbon target, http://www.libdems.org.uk/news/liberal-democrats-r... (their report: http://www.libdems.org.uk/media/documents/policies... ) it doesn't correspond to the 10 year timescale that the likes of James Hansen think we have to make radical changes in (their target is 2050, and peak oil will probably have more effect on reducing carbon than their policies...) -- for the imperial governments and corporations it's still very much business as usual.

    Alex Jones:

I thought the paper I posted about 8,000 years of man made global warming was really quite convincing: http://www.truthmove.org/forum/topic/880

As far as I can see the mass murder of other species and devastation of the environment and man made climate change has been ongoing for thousands of years, it is inseparable from "civizilation", I'm using "civizilation" in the way that Nafeez Ahmed used it in his talk, The Hidden Holocaust - Our Civilizational Crisis, http://www.truthmove.org/forum/topic/790 to mean Empire.

If wish I was a better writer, I'd love to see some good work on the inseparable nature of imperialism, war, environment destruction and man made climate change and how 9/11 fits in with this and how the 9/11 truth "leaders" who are in imperial denial are actually part of the overall problem... but I'm probably not going to be the one who writes this...
